Alexader Payne - The Director of Sideways, About Schmidt, & Election

About the Site
Scott BeckMy name is Scott Beck and I am a young filmmaker from Iowa. In 2001, co-writer/director/producer Bryan Woods & I formed Bluebox Limited, an independent production company. To date, we have written, directed and produced 14 shorts and four feature length films, which have been screened across the nation and won several awards. In 2004, we were Top 3 finalists in the same contest and also placed in the Project Greenlight Top 50 Director's competition in May 2004. Recently, Bryan & I received a development deal with MTV Films.

As a young filmmaker, I am always learning and growing with each production. Many directors & writers have influenced my storytelling, but Alexander Payne & Jim Taylor have spoken to me more than most.

After watching "Sideways" in November 2004, I became very curious about Payne & Taylor. I had seen "About Schmidt" in 2002, but other than that, I didn't know much about either of them. As I scoured the Internet for information, I found many interviews, articles, and photos -- but it was scattered across hundreds of web pages! I thought to myself: why hasn't anybody created a comprehensive website for Alexander Payne and his films? After budgeting some time and money for domain space, I decided I would go ahead and do it myself.

I admire Alexander Payne & Jim Taylor and respect each of their films.  They bring fresh stories into contemporary cinema, which has been contaminated with dry ideas, one-dimensional characters and recycled plots. Both Payne & Taylor have a terrific command of the filmmaking craft, succeeding with the bare necessities of a wonderful story and terrific characters.

And, as a shameless plug, if you'd like to take the time to check out our films, please visit http://www.blueboxlimited.com.  You can also view the trailer for our latest film, "The Bride Wore Blood," at http://www.thebrideworeblood.com.

Most of all, thank YOU for supporting AlexanderPayne.net!
